Access Statement for Torwood House Bed and Breakfast

Introduction

Torwood House is ideally situated in the seaside town of Broadstairs and offers three individually decorated rooms with en-suite facilities. The Victorian house has no lift or accommodation on the ground floor. All three rooms are on the first floor with main flight of 14 stairs. All rooms have high ceilings.

We are unable to accommodate any pets.

We are situated just one minute from the seafront leading to the shops, restaurants and bars of Broadstairs town.

The railway station is situated at the top of the High Street, just a few minutes walk away. The bus stops at the top of the road just a minute away.

Taxis are available at the station, but we can easily book a reliable company in advance.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

Check in time is ordinarily after 2pm, but we can accept early check-in by arrangement.

We request guests advise us of their estimated time of arrival.

Car parking is free on the street outside the house, and generally quiet after 5pm. Due to our fantastic location in the nearest road to the town with free parking, it may get busy during the day. However, we are always happy to move our cars as you arrive if necessary so you can park close by.

We offer assistance with luggage.

Main Entrance, Reception & Check-in Area

There is one step of 4" to the front door, then step of 5" through a 42 wide doorway, with double doors inside porch.

The outer door is always locked, please ring the bell on arrival.

On entry to our house you will be invited to a seated area to book in.

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

The hallway, stairs and landings are fully carpetted.

The house is centrally heated throughout and rooms have thermostats on the radiators to adjust temperature to suit their requirements.

There are 14 stairs to the first floor where the Laura room is situated, followed by a further 3 stairs to the Alexandra and Victoria rooms. The stairs are 6 high x 10 deep x 38 wide.

Each room has sitting chairs for guests' comfort.

All rooms are en-suite

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area, Take Away & Cafe

Guests are welcome to use the dining room for board games.

We request guests do not take food to the bedrooms, but guests are welcome to use the dining room by arrangement for takeaway meals.

Free use of cutlery and plates is available.

Breakfast is served in the Breakfast room, which has Victorian style floorboards, and original fireplace.

We offer background music in the breakfast room.

We do not offer a laundry service, but we offer the use of iron and ironing board which may be used in the bedrooms.

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

All bedrooms are accessed by the main stairway which has wide shallow steps.

All bedrooms are furnished to a high standard and have fitted carpet.

All bedrooms are en-suite with either a shower and/or bath, WC and wash basin, shaver point.

Hospitality trays are provided which offer tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fruit teas and biscuits.

Also provided are flat-screen televisions with remote controls, hairdryers, alarm clocks and a selection of magazines.

Beds are made with cotton sheets, summer or winter duvets, feather or anti-allergy pillows. Extra pillows and blankets can be found in the wardrobe.

The bedrooms are individually furnished with a wardrobe, chest of drawers/dressing table with seating, bedside tables and lamps.

There is a guest information folder containing general information.

Bedroom 1 - Victoria room

On the first floor and situated at the front of the house.

Super king size (6ft wide) bed with access to both sides.

Large bay window with two chairs, seating area.

Double doors onto juliet balcony with two chairs and table, and sea view to the side.

Original feature fireplace, and chaise longue.

Large en-suite shower.

Bedroom 2 - Laura room

On the first floor situated at the rear of the house overlooking courtyard garden below.

Available as twin, or superking size (6ft wide) double bed with access to both sides.

Seating

En-suite full size bathroom with bath and shower over.

Bedroom 3 - Alexandra room.

Situated on first floor next to Victoria room.

Double original brass bedstead (4'6) access from both sides.

Ensuite shower.

Dressing table and seating.

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]

All rooms are en-suite with either shower and/or bath, WC and wash basin.

All bathrooms have tiled floors and walls, bathmat, toiletries, white fluffy towels and face flannels.

We have sunny front garden with large bench.

Rear garden not currently available for guests, except for bicycle storage.

Additional Information

Torwood House is strictly non smoking throughout, including balconies and garden - we request guests smoke only beyond the front gate.

The house is fitted with smoke alarms.

In the event of a fire the house must be evacuated via the front door.

If you have dietary requirement please advise us prior to your arrival and we will accommodate your needs.

We can store cycles in our locked courtyard garden.
